Candidate's Statement
I have proudly served the Lake Elsinore Unified School District Board Trustee Area 5 since 2018. I have lived in Horsethief Canyon since 1997 with my wife of 39 years and raised two kids who attended LEUSD schools. My wife has been a Teacher in LEUSD for over 20 years. I am a Manager for an Environmental/Construction company in Orange County. Serving on the
School Board is just the most recent means for me to give back to our community. I am not a “politician” and I have never approached this service with any agenda other than what is in the best interest of the students, teachers, and staff of LEUSD.
I am proud of the work I have helped to accomplish over the past 4 years. In my first year, we dealt with the impacts of the Holy Fire and the associated risks of floods from the denuded hillsides. We as a board also opened the first new school in the district in many years (Alberhill Elementary). We have breathed new life into the vacant and shuttered Jean Hayman Elementary bringing it back to be a valued part of the District again. We have invested in Solar Power projects, a new practice gym at Elsinore High, affordable teacher housing for new teachers, and numerous enhancements to our other campuses.
Over the past 2 years, we have faced a global pandemic. This brought an entirely new assortment of challenges and difficult decisions facing the Board. It has been a challenge that every member of the Board has taken very seriously. We devoted many hours to studying the impacts and looked at ways to keep our students, teachers, and staff safe under these challenging conditions. All of our decisions were made to do what we felt was best for our students, teachers, and staff and how we could minimize the risks to health and wellness. These were hard decisions but we faced them head-on and I am proud of the work we did.
Looking to the future, I want to continue making progress to make LEUSD the best school district in the area. We have plans to revitalize Elsinore Elementary, expand the training and childcare opportunities at Jean Hayman, and provide the 21st-century tools that our students need to succeed in college, careers, the military, or whatever they choose to do. I hope I can count on your vote so we can continue the work you originally elected me to do.
